One of my older ink drawings (15 years old). This one took me about 55 hours, and left me with mixed feelings about the results. "Castle Rock," is a popular locale name--I think Stephen King wrote at least one book about a place with that name (never read any of them), and the Western U.S. has something so-named in each state I've visited. I envision this place to have been partly carved from the rock, and partly built upon/above it, which gives it its name.
You cease to amaze me. You definitely have your own style of doing things. The intricacies that obtain and yet keep the drawing strokes interesting, i.e. the sun. Good job my man.
I think it's great! What is it about this piece that makes you unsure? I like the way you portrayed the rock, and I love the design of the castle. There is some really wonderful detail, such as the smoke rising from the village/town below. The clouds give it a sense of movement of weather, and the shining rays of the sun through the clouds fill space very nicely. A couple of the towers look a little crooked/leaning to the right, but this doesn't damage the piece one bit in my opinion. I've visited many castles, and this one looks quite believable, even as it comes out of the rock. I've seen castles that are built in this way, and it looks amazing, almost as if they were transformed out of the rock. I don't know if you're interested, but here is a link (which unfortunately is not in English) to pictures of all the castles from my home country. To look at the pictures, click on any of the names on the right hand-side, and scroll down on the left hand-side window to look at floor plans, and exterior shots of those you click on. Check out "Oravsky Hrad" in particular: [link] If nothing else, this is a good website for drawing references.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
