Jervil carries his captive through his workroom, where a stationary figure draws the Cat Witch's startled gaze, and Annalae feels a cold fist of fear pound into her stomach.
"Callista!" she gasps, tensing and rising up on the Rat-Man's shoulder as she meets her ally's pained and haunted eyes. "Jervil, what have you done?!"
"The cocooning cords will hold her, Cat Witch," the Rat-Man responds in a sing-song voice. "She was meant for Maladyne all along anyway, like I told you. But you, sweet Annalae... you will help me with one last sorcerous experiment--the culmination of my studies here..."
