Pen and ink, 45 hours, 11" x 17" (about 28 cm x 43 cm). This beast of a drawing took me all week to finish and completely destroyed 2 Micron ink pens. It is one of the most elaborate and difficult compositions I've ever thrown myself against, and I'm still not sure how I feel about it. It needed to be done, however, before I could dive into "Fair Harvest" as I've been promising everyone (including myself) that I would.
Breathe a long sigh of relief. I've got a buttload of comments on "Necklace" and "Sorceress Imprisoned" and others from nice Deviants who deserve a response, and I can get to it now.
So, the question you may have about this is: What is this a picture of? And I could try to answer it with a few more questions:
1. Why can't the good guys have Ringwraiths too? The Nazgul were so cool in the Lord of the Rings (movies and books), it seems a shame that the forces of good ended up with Hobbits on their side instead of those guys. THAT would have been a wild ride to watch, I think: Gandalf and Frodo siccing a few Black Riders on the Uruk Hai--"Hey, Boromir, don't sweat the whole 'Mordor' thing, we'll just send these guys in and sit back to watch the fireworks..."
2. Does the Grim Reaper wear armor? Well, traditionally "no," but then again, Grimmy's never faced himself in combat that I know of... Maybe it would be time to trade in that bulky scythe for a suit of plate armor and a sword, if you know what I mean...
3. Which one is Lord Soth (the Death Knight from the Dragonlance books)? Neither. The one on the left I call Lord Arkus Chilling ("Lord Chill" for short), and the one on the right is Pydranus, Wielder of Plaguewort. So, who are they? That's a really good question, and one I am still trying to figure out.
4. What? There's not a single woman in this piece? ARe you kidding?!?!? Nope. Honestly, it was a bit refreshing that way. Not because I don't enjoy drawing women... ah ha, ah... ah... ahem. Okay, back in control now. No, it was refreshing because now I'm ready to draw women with a vengeance, which is necessary considering where I think "Fair Harvest" is going...
Awe, that's enough. I think by mid-next-week I should be posting "Fair Harvest," now. So, for all those who were waiting patiently (and even a little impatiently ), give me the weekend, and we should be up and running at long last.
Death on the Left: "You call that a sword? It's a frakkin' *cutlass*. You goin' nautical or somethin'?"
Death on the Right: "Falchion, moron. It's a falchion. At least *my* sword isn't all... pointy."
DotL: "Pointy? *POINTY*?? This is the latest thing from the Rivertown Swordmakers' Guild. At least *I* don't ride an overgrown *chicken*!"
DotR: "At least *MY* mount doesn't have weather-altering halitosis!"
DorL: "Screw this, and SCREW YOU! I'm goin' to Thangolin Forest, capture me some Forest Amazons, and tickle their feet 'til they giggle 'uncle' in twelve-part harmony."
DorR (laughing): "You're gonna invade Thangolin Forest? You and what army?"
DotL (pointing at orc host): "Uh... that one."
DotR: "Oh... Can I come?"
DotL: "Yeah, sure. Got any mentos?"
DotR: "Mentos?"
DotL: "For the *horse*, moron."
This deserves a much longer comment than 'Wow!', but as I've got to run out the door and get to work, my response is Wow! for now The pens which were sacrificed for this work did not die in vain They've done a most worthy job.
fascinating. I looked at the image before I read the description. I love it when I see a picture and am actually interested to know the story behind it. I thought at first the 2 deaths were fighting for turf rights on a battlefield or something. I like eet
No women, but there is a nice looking bird. I really like your technique, it's great for giving that dark and morbid look that death and monsters should have.
