I've been a fan of 's smooth, flowing style of illustration for a while, and I think her frequent "anthro" theme rubbed off on me a bit.

Okay, the secret's out: Deirdre is able to take on some of the traits and abilities of the creatures that are "en-totemed" on the nightstand there. In this case, she's "going fox," as I've been calling it. There are five totem animals there to choose from: a fox, bear, hawk, fish (it's the curvy one in the back), and wolf (howling in the foreground).

The physical changes you can see here are the tail (which has a hard time staying beneath her shift, which is why I ended up shortening it...), and the fine bit of orange-ish fur that I KNOW someone is going to say doesn't look orange in that black and white graphite... :rolleyes: I darkened her fingertips/nails as well. I didn't change her face or figure, other than trying to make her a tiny bit more angular than she was previously. Mentally, I imagine that she's a bit more cunning when she's "going fox," and that she has some heightened animal senses and better nightvision. As you can see, her hand is on her door latch because she's about to steal down through the darkened inn and make her way to THE cellar...

Yeah. Good luck with that...

By the way, in the story, Deirdre is at least 18 years old. I keep thinking of her as 18.5 or 19. I consulted a reference for her lower figure and face, but it's not one I can link here.
