Description

See, I haven't been idle... ;)

This is my entry in the Monsters and Maidens [link] contest for November-December of 2006: Mythological Maidens.

Rather than go on and on to explain the mythological tale behind this picture, I thought I'd try and make it interesting: The first person who can tell me (in a comment below) the correct names of all five individuals pictured here will get a free Black Canvas I: Art from the Shadows book mailed to them (but the winner has to pay the shipping). For details on the nature of this book-prize, consult my journal entry [link] . The keywords I've added to this submission might be clues... I will be the ultimate judge, of course, for such things as spelling, while DA's wonderful comment system will judge how quick you are.

Edited Dec. 1st: randomredux got the names within minutes of my original post. He'll get a book at shipping price only.

The dwarves are not Huey, Luey, Duey, and Screwy, nor are they Sleepy, Grumpy, Humpy, and Horny. Nor are they Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, Tom Ashcroft, and Tom DeLay ( ), although those are some great ideas. =) The woman is Freyja, Norse goddess of love, fertility, and flame. One day she wakes up in Asgard feeling compelled and lured by something distant. She journeys off to a glacier in Midgard (Earth), and down underneath it into dark caverns where these four dark-elves (dwarves) live. The dwarves are named Alfrigg, Berling, Dvalin, and Grer, and together are known as the Brisings. They made many amazing creations/works of jewelry and metal, some of which were owned and used by the gods. This time they had made a necklace of such extreme beauty that the goddess Freyja HAD to have it. The dwarves weren't selling it, apparently--she offered them any amount of silver they could desire, along with other things that one would exchange for it, and they continually turned her down. Then they talked it over secretly, and told her that the only thing they would accept in exchange for the necklace was the goddess herself--or rather her body, which was theirs to use for the next four nights (one night for each dwarf). Unable to refuse because of her compelling desire for the necklace, the goddess allowed them to have their twisted way with her for four days before fleeing with the necklace back to Asgard.

I added the bondage to accentuate/embody the dwarves "twisted" desires and the unyielding compulsion the necklace had on the goddess.

Pen and Ink, 11" x 17" (about 28 cm x 43 cm), 35 hours.

Enjoy! =)
