Prologue Rats 05

Each chapter will have a prologue that is between 5 - 8 pages. This is the fifth for Rats in the Cellar. I'll post links to and through it all later.

"But while Milady Maladyne and the Harbinger’s devoted followed her vision, others pursued different paths toward resolution and a brighter future. Among them were those who doubted the records, songs, monuments, and murals of Karea’s Glorious Victory, as well as those who sought a greater understanding of the evils of our Age. No shadow cast by a barbarian horde rides to engulf these lands and peoples, but rather a shadow growing within the lands and the people themselves. Where Karea the Harbinger fought against a single, great evil, that of our Age is made of a thousand splinters of a thousand different stripes, growing like weeds throughout the whole of the realm, wearing at the mortar of justice, respect, health, and safety in every corner of city and field, mind and heart.

"While my own Foresight is the stuff of deduction, I have learned that the Night before which our peaceful sun sets is, like the power of the Harbinger herself, supernatural in origin. While Milady Maladyne suspected this, I know, before embarking on her course, the nature of our supernatural enemy and the extent to which it has gained a terrible, corrupting foothold in our land is not something she is aware of. But knowing what I know about it, and what my final writings here will undoubtedly reveal, I cannot but believe that a future resolution will not be found solely within Milady Maladyne’s vision, nor by the long line of faithful devoted who have committed themselves to that course."

The central figure is based on reference photos provided by ~collared-by-faile . Admittedly, as I'm not the best photographer, getting the form right required a little hands-on studying. I'm happy to relate that I got it all figured out in only a few hours...
