Rats Revision, Page01 by faile35 Rats Revision, Page01 by faile35
You might recognize this. I won't explain myself again here, but you can read about it in this journal entry .

Again, the first person who can correctly guess this stock model's identity (and get that guess to me) I'll feature in the "'Demon's Due' Defined" journal entry.

The old one is here (where it will remain): [link]

Enjoy!

I gotta agree with some of the others, in a way it's sort of a shame to revise the older works, but in another way, it's great to see your new takes on the characters, she's absolutely stunning just from this little view. :)

Wow. I wasn't thrilled with you "overwriting" all of your art at first, but when you put the new stuff up next to the old, I can see why you want to--really a stark difference in style, technique...and skill. I've always liked your work, but I must say I really appreciate the redone pieces. Keep on rockin'!

Can't put my finger on it, but there's something about the face and body that just don't seem right. Face a little too big maybe?? Dunno...

There are several things that I'll fix on it before I publish it. This was the first time I tried using the stock model's image, and I went for a pretty tame, orderly situation (too orderly--the composition could use some more creativity in the angles and such). Thanks!

Wow. Looking at this one and the original is a fascinating look at how art evolves as a skill. There is nothing wrong with the old picture, but it basically looks like a classic comic book, while this looks like . . . well, like genuine art.

I know my original draft of my novel and the current one would be even more dramatically different, if I could summon the courage to see what a hack I used to be. :)

Very interesting project there Jeff.

it would be cool if later on in the pics she gets nibbled by rats, esp. on her belly and thighs.

You amaze me with your determination, hard work and integity in revisiting and aiming to redo those early images :jawdrop: but kudos to you, you've done a great job here and it's not as though those earlier images were weak at all. I was reminded of your lovely better-half when I saw the image, but I doubt she's on here as a stock model :)

Thank you, Carole. I've used the individual in question as a stock model in the project a few times when an angle of the body was mis-represented in my mind, or when I got sick and tired of using my own hands as models for everyone else's. =)

Abduction Valerin - my favourite episode. The strong armed girl is overpowered and tied by small monsters is best!
O, Jeff, the "'Demon's Due' is fine scenario for a full-length animation film

It's a fun one, definitely. Thanks! It was the impetus behind most of "Demon's Due," and it's a lot of fun to return to it and re-work the images, which is a highly unusual thing for me (once something's done, I very seldom go back to it, if ever).

I really love it when you compare the old and new version, this is the very definition of artistic evolution xD
And of course it's also great to see some new stuff again ... ^^

Thank you! I'll post some new stuff as I go, although I won't post all of the Rats redone pages. I do plan to do and post some intermittent "Coils" pictures, too, to keep the story going.

Good choice of the stock model. She has much resemblance to the original Valerin and seems to have the "inner fire" of that character. Not that it will hinder the gremlins much ... :evillaugh:

Yeah, I thought so, too, which is why I cast her in that role. She's got some expressive eyes that are shaped differently, and smaller, than most of the other heroines I've drawn, so she'll be distinguishable. Couldn't ask for a better setup, actually. :plotting:

Taking a second glance i really like her hairstyle. I think thats something which will add a lot of distinction too.:w00t:

On the other hand, compared to the original picture the headon, straight POV takes a lot of drama out of the picture, which is why prever the first drawn setup and scene way more.

But Rats has always been my favorite chapter of the whole series, so i am really glad you are giving it the much needed artistical attention and bring it in line with your other works. :)

Yeah, I agree with your assessment--the dynamics of the first one were stronger. Don't fret, though; this was the first time I was "playing around" with the stock model's face, and it's likely that I'll actually change this up a bit when I put the publication together. Redoing just Valerin in this image will only take a couple of hours, which I'm totally willing to give, since it's the introduction to the whole storyline. Thanks!

Fantastic. Read the journal entry, can't afford all chapters in hardcover right now, will buy as many as I can. I heard you on your "not in it for the money" speak, but your stuff's fantastic so "TAKE MY MONEY DAMMIT!"-Fry from Futurama, I think....

Wow, I so love this. I'll have to think some more about why, exactly, as I watch you re-draw the other pages. And I hope you don't have too much deja-vu from 2003. That wasn't exactly a good year...

Thank you! 2003 had its notable ups and its notable downs, surely. I mostly think of the ups, though, so a little deja vu is an alright thing. And, yes, I'm having it, but from many years of my life, actually. =)

Wow. I have to say this revised version shows how your style has changed since the original Rats. Not merely in the use of a stock model reference, but also in how you render faces period. They're less "line-ey" and the features are defined with more "soft" suggestion. Just amazing. :)
