While growing up in Shackelsford, near Immodesto, CA, Theodore Bairrus Jr. was an inquisitive little kid whose penchant for creative experimentation was matched only by his capacity for completely disregarding social propriety. The neighborhood kids regarded him like a one-child zoo of the bizarre and avoided him for the most part, and neighborhood parents quietly referred to him as "Little Oppenheimer," but his loyal dog Oddington lovingly followed him everywhere. His mother and stepfather were proud but concerned parents who patiently tolerated his occupation of the unfinished basement for his personal laboratory, and they explained away his antics and exploits as the workings of an eager and active mind.
That is until that fateful July 4th weekend when young Theo took it upon himself, once and for all, to "figure out girls." That was the day his college-aged step-sister and her two friends disappeared while sun-bathing in the back yard. They missed the Independence Day barbecue and a swim party an old friend threw down the street before they were reported missing and the police were called in. No one thought to ask young Theo if he knew anything about it...
