This one's about 15 years old, based on an idea I had when I was 16 (years earlier). It's one of my earliest oil paintings ever (I think it's the fifth one in my life). It is the second one I did purely from my brain without looking at anything. I began using it as a wallpaper for my computer desktop a few years back, and some high school students "borrowed it" and began spreading it around the internet, so you may have seen it somewhere before. In any case, my signature is barely visible in the right-hand bottom edge. I am lucky to have saved this one when so much of my other art "vanished."

A few years after I did this, a fantasy book called "Fire Sea" came out, with the cover illustration done by Keith Parkinson. I read the book and hated it, but Parkinson's art is always good (and in many ways better than this piece, most certainly). --Faile35
I'm betting you've seen his stuff, and possibly read one of the books "covered" by him. He died of leukemia last year, but his site's still up. [link] And here's the cover painting for the book "Firesea". [link] The book was written by the same folks who wrote the first Dragonlance stuff.
Yes, I've considered doing book covers. I'm building a body of work that could lend itself to doing that, but the process of my art doesn't jive well with it. I have a very difficult time illustrating someone else's ideas, especially upon request and for payment. You've seen a portion of this first-hand, so just imagine how tortured I'd be if the necessary idea NEVER showed up in my head. I'd have to "fake it," and I'm really horrible at "faking it." If it doesn't come from me, it just doesn't get painted... --Faile35

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example.
