Avora raises the wand before her. “So, again, I offer you this missing piece of the legacy of the Mitesceru Family line. Like Antreatos, I was cast out from the Well of Wisdom, and I have gained what I am and what I possess through much hard work and sacrifice. ‘Twould be a shame to let it pass without record, would it not?”

In answer, the massive chandelier shudders and begins to unfold itself. Piece by black, bio-metallic piece, long limbs detach and twist apart from the construct’s frame, the folding joints punctuated by flickering lights like ornate candelabras. Over the top of the great underbelly, a dark shell bulges in shadow. Sporting a large, elliptical eye flanked by seven smaller ones, a fanged head extends to peer over the edge of the glowing underside. On the opposite end, a quartet of nozzles moves out and down, pulling the circular belly into an abdomen-like oval shape tipped by a black set of spinnerets. Above it all, an immense chain of spiraling links tightens helically into itself, raising the whole chandelier closer to the tower’s peaked ceiling.

“Yes,” Avora says, lowering the wand. “Very impressive.”

We've seen all this in the Callista capture sequence of Web of Betrayal (drawn and posted almost nine years after I originally envisioned it), but the actual "resting" arrangement of the Guardian was not seen there. This seemed like the place to glimpse the thing "unfolding," along with understanding a bit better how its venom works, so that we get some notion of what exactly will be happening to poor Callista later on. As always, Avora was drawn using references provided to me by Viator-Defessus , whose work with this model really made the Avora character come alive for me. My thanks to photographer and model!
