And then it is the flame itself that seems to hold something dark, a voice reflected in her eyes and mind.

You can't escape, clever one. The sign has been placed upon you;  it was put there years ago. Before you betrayed the Cat Witch to take your place, you were marked. Before you delivered her and your erstwhile rescuer to the mirror. Before your hapless father figure stood in your defense and bargained for your freedom. Before you were delivered to the torments of Undercellar and laboratory, whip and worktable. Before you were discovered by the being calling itself Jervil, a trussed prize for the taking, you were marked. You know it, too, for you have felt that mark many times since then.

Our mark, the mark of hunger, has driven you. Just as it drove you into our grasp before, it will do so again. And you do not have the power to rid yourself of it.

You belong to us, and we will not relinquish you. No matter who you seek to throw at us in your stead, no matter how far you go, you can't escape.

You know, sometimes when I finish a drawing and get the comments ready to post with it, I think back on all those times that someone close to me would ask me, "Why can't you draw nice things like landscapes and bunnies?" Maybe this image will offer some metaphorical insight into that situation... :fear: ;)

It's really nice to work with Natalie Paquette's imagery again. She tends to use a LOT of good, dramatic lighting that inspires moody imagery like this. And, at this point, Callista has a lot to be moody about. My thanks to Natalie at fetishfaerie-stock . =)

Enjoy! =)

Note: Web of Betrayal and Demon's Due are a work of fantasy and fiction. The artist/creator in no way condones real mistreatment of this kind toward any woman or man, by living person, gremlin, plant, assassin, ratman, viscous fluid, programmed device, animated home furnishings, or otherworldly spiritual beings. Furthermore, the artist opposes the marginalizing and restriction of women in general by any institution, political and/or religious, including those which have individual women amongst their membership touting/promoting their own happiness within that institution as evidence that ALL women should feel the same way. This includes the religion I was raised in and which I have utterly discarded from my life over this and other issues.

This begs the question of when exactly our poor anti-heroine WAS marked. And yes, I will shut up now.

Her face looks amazing, as most of your Callista faces do. So looking forward to this chapter!!
