As the distant battle rages off into the city streets, Callista watches with growing dread. She recalls the tortures she endured at the hands of the creature Jervil, tortures that were accompanied by long screams of agony. But the screams were not hers. They echoed from other chambers hidden deeply away in the darkened cellar lair, where Callista knew the ratman worked ceaselessly towards some end he maintained was in service to the legacy of the Lady Maladyne. Other people, some innocent and some less so, suffered the fiend's twisted manipulations. "Were you a part of that, Jervil?" the blonde woman breathes, as the hulking figure vanishes down a darkened alley with the guardsmen in pursuit. "You betrayed me, and my stepfather, and Annalae. Was it all done to serve Maladyne's purposes, or was it something else?"

I like both Callistas and bound Callista is certainly appreciated, especially since the guardian spider did such a lax job in stripping it's captive.
It is interesting that Jervil didn't seem to have any notion of what the guardian spider did to Callista, apparently on Theonious' orders, regarding her as one more convert to be sent through the mirror until Big Al intervened. One wonders what would have happened had he not been there.
