"A deadline for whom?" Tarkin asks quietly.

"She didn't know when I left her last night. A deadline for Dernhem maybe, or for the intellect she's seeking. Or perhaps for the High Lady, or even her and the other women whose phantoms lie down there now." Luther shakes his head. "But the Scholar recognizes that she likely faces another deadline of her own--working alone down there or under protection of a guard, she believes it is a simple matter of time before something foul is triggered or some darkness is awakened to rise and act against her. Her hope is that she can learn what she needs to before that happens, and if she's unable to make use of that knowledge herself, to get that message to someone who can do something with it. As I was leaving her, she was preparing to create what she called a fail-safe, a glowing mote to guide her in finding information and to transfer that to someone else should she be unable. She said that she believed the heavy enchantments in the place would likely augment her efforts and make the fail-safe more effective, giving her, and us, our best shot.

"And that," Luther concludes, "is why I left her down there alone. Though I did station two of my personal guard just inside the bulkhead door of the cellar in the event she should call on them, and another to check in with them and report to me every hour."

As always, Elina was drawn from references provided by Feathered-pics . She gave me some great images to work with in this section, for which I'm grateful. If you like what you see, please let her know. =)

Enjoy! =)

Sorry to double-post but had to add a thing or two because this is what happens when you first look at an image on an iPOD and only later come back and see it on a full screen.

This is one of the best images you've done, in my opinion.  Leaving aside that she looks beautiful, you really captured her calm demeanor, concentration, and focus ... the left hand relaxed but not really, right hand poised as if engaged in some precision task (which I suppose is entirely possible) and utterly absorbed in what she's doing ... but also very calm and in control.  It must've taken forever to capture all the shades of dark gray but that came off well too, and I like that everything about the image is asymmetrical; there's no sense at all that it's posed or staged.  It just feels like one of those where everything came together about perfectly.

And lastly, and not a small thing, Elina looks positively gorgeous in this picture.  Might be your best of her in that way so far too!
