Description

Pen and Ink. 11" x 14" (28 cm x 35 cm). About 35 hours work.

"Jotun" means "Giant." At least, I think that's what it means in one of the Scandinavian languages. Feel free to correct me, oh mighty descendants of the Vikings! =)

(Edit 8 hours later: Thanks to the cool Scandinavian folks, I've been able to correct my spelling, from "Joten" to "Jotun," which is what I had in mind. Though "Jotnar" is the plural and might make more sense, I'm going to keep "Jotun" because I like the sound of it more. Thanks, guys, especially *Guyra and ~Yggi11 .)

I destroyed two pens with this one, but it was a nice change of pace, trying to keep as much white on the paper as possible. And this is the first of my ink drawings I feel it's necessary to say that the scan lost some of the detail--something I will try to remedy somehow in the future.

Other Norse Mythology and Giant pictures in my gallery:
Lava Giant
Storm Giant
Frost Giants Attack
Father and Son
Naglfar
Necklace (censored version)
Necklace (uncensored version)

Enjoy!

Hmmm ... you'd think by now I'd have seen everything in your gallery but it turns out not.  I can't profess any particular expertise in Norse mythology (I'm far better versed in the tales of Dernhem and the Otherness, for better or worse) but I like the scope and menace depicted here, and above all the way that some of the trees seem to be morphing into giants the longer you stare at the image ... or perhaps I'm just seeing things.  But dammit I KNOW the two on the left are changing ...
