I continually update this entry each time I post a new page of the story.  So, it frequently has new information, but may not be worth your time unless you are hopelessly lost in this story or you are looking for dirt you can use against me...  ;)    After receiving a warning/error message that this journal entry was too long for DA, I split it into two sections, one for the explanation of the project, and one for the fun, supplementary stuff.  The second one, "'Demon's Due' Plus" is here:  faile35.deviantart.com/journal…

Other journal entries detail the availability of hardcopy publications of the Demon's Due storyline, purchasable at Amazon.com . The links to Amazon are here, and the links to the journal entries follow.

As with Rats, Part 1, availability at Amazon.uk will follow soon, while Amazon.ca has yet to carry Rats, Part 1. There are eight bonus images, one of which was inspired/demanded by Tim's narrative (really delicious). =) At 158 pages, it's thicker than Part 1, too, and full of "naughty bits."

A few details about this publication.
* It's 164 pages in length (Rats in the Cellar, Part 1 was 134 pages, and Rats in the Cellar, Part 2 was 158 pages ).
* It contains 7 bonus images (Rats in the Cellar, Part 1 had 3 bonus images, and Rats in the Cellar, Part 2 had  6 bonus images).
* The adult content included in the bonus imagery is... much more "adult" than in the previous volumes. In collared-by-faile 's words, "It's steamy."
* The narrative is roughly 14,500 words in length (Rats in the Cellar, Part 1 had a narrative around 10,250 words long, and

Also, collared-by-faile has a Facebook account set up where she'll be posting status updates for what we're working on. It's mostly just to catalog for ourselves what we're doing, but if you'd like to follow along, send a friend request to her  www.deviantart.com/users/outgo… . If, while you're there you want to play FarmVille with her, just send a neighbor request. She's nerdy like that.  ;)

"Demon's Due" is a dark fantasy story set in an imaginary world somewhat like Medieval Europe.  Unlike Medieval Europe, however, most of the prominent roles are taken by women.  Why?  Because it's my story, and I like to draw women far more than I like to draw men.  I am a straight man, after all, so, "alternative lifestyles" notwithstanding, that should come as no surprise to anyone.

"Demon's Due" is about a group of women struggling for and/or against each other and "the law," sometimes with the aid of male characters and sometimes in spite of it.  Sexuality is a subject that comes up fairly regularly (in the form of nudity, intimacy, allusions, and as a plot device), and therefore "Demon's Due" has lots of adult themes and images, some of which could be offensive.  So be cautioned before you go diving into it.  Also, all of the characters represented in the nude are at least 18 years of age (in reality, and in the context of the story).  Let me clarify here and now that, other than a few nicks and scratches and rope burns, no female character will be physically harmed in this storyline--the idea of a woman in real physical pain and peril sickens me, so the story is limited to bondage and nudity, and psychological peril (and there is plenty of that).  Obviously, since this is DA, there will be no graphic sex, even if some sexual activity is implied beneath the covers.  =)

"Demon's Due" is broken up into chapters, of which there will be 10 - 12.  All told, the entire story will be pushing 1000 pages when complete.  Currently, I have about 800 of them done.  At this time, the chapters are titled and ordered as follows:

Bookbinding Page01 by faile35
Chapter Nine: Bookbinding (238+ pages, but will actually be less than that when the first portion up to the Hall of Judgment is moved into Barred Entry).

Chapter Ten: Web of Betrayal (a 9 page Prologue and 8+ pages)

Chapter Eleven: Duals

Chapter Twelve: Chain of Events

I have used other non-DA photos and images for references for faces and body parts and such in several of the pictures in the first two chapters, while in Chapter Three the use of DA Stock Models begins to take over.  I am quite pleased to be working with a group of cool stock models who have shared great visions and ideas with me about the future of "Demon's Due."  DA Stock models whose images have shown up in the storyline at this point include Natalie Paquette (a.k.a. "fetishfaerie-stock"), Emily Eshelman (a.k.a. "feathered-pics"), Rachel Jacobi, Adeline Debaire (a.k.a. "perditax31"), Lindsey (a.k.a "Lizzy-Barry"), and Geekhyena .  =)

:iconfetishfaerie-stock:  :iconfeathered-pics:  :iconracheljacobi:  :iconperditax31: , and :icongeekhyena:

Numerous people have offered suggestions about the costumes and look of the characters involved.  Michelle (a.k.a. MichelleMH ) has helped me out quite a bit with costumes and design, particularly that of Madame Zirena and Maladyne.  =)  Thanks, Michelle!

Character Statistics

New Statistics are being calculated for the hardcopy publications, and they are more accurate than those below. The graph is available at the following link:
rpubs.com/JeffFairbourn/227295

The old statistics follow.
On a whim, I went through and counted up the pages in which each character of the story made an appearance (not including bloopers and scraps).  Then I counted how many of those pages did not involve action shots (I'll call these "character development") versus those that do.  Then I counted the number of pages in which the character was a captive (either defeated and dead, or an official captive, or a mock captive).  And finally I counted the number of pages in which the character was partially nude.  I don't know what interesting insights someone can make of this information, but here it is:

(Listed by Total Number of Appearances)

Elina Villios
Bare Necessities Page44 by faile35  Bookbinding Page177 by faile35
Total Appearances:  224.  Eighty-six of those (40%) are "character development," while she struggles (physically or intellectually) in 89 of them (41%), and she is an official captive in 49 of them (16%). She is shown at least partially nude in 57 of them (23%).

Total Appearances:  6 ("in person"), but more than that through statues, murals, and such.

Out of curiosity, are you going to update the numbers for appearances and such in statistics?  Or are you continually updating them?

Well, I haven't updated them since I started the revision work in Rats and Plot. I think I probably should, but I'm also thinking that it might be fun to just throw in "NewValerin" and "NewAvora" and so on to see what the revisions have done. My wife has kept some of those statistics so it should be doable without too much work. Thanks for the reminder! =)

Wonderful drawing and an enormous amount of good hard work. I hope that you are making money from this, and I am worried that you are not. That is the pity of the internet; the world wide web makes it easy for artists to find an audience but almost impossible for artists to find a paycheck --

Well, I'm gearing up to publish the whole thing. When it happens, I don't plan on making a lot of money (that was never the goal), but I do look forward to seeing the work come to fruition and made available for people to throw money at me for it (or curses and vegetables...). =) Thanks!

I thoroughly enjoy this story and cannot wait for more. I can't remember how I found you, but I'm glad I did. I do have a couple questions though. You don't have to answer them, because I know I'm gonna ramble a bit, putting in my two cents and all.

Have you ever thought of publishing this story when it's done? With small narratives to accompany each page, so on-lookers know what's going on and being said? Mostly what's said. The first...three chapters I think have almost nothing to accompany them, so you can get a little lost, but the addition of the small narratives in the last few are a great addition to the pages. They seem to add just a bit more depth when you look at the pages and read along.

...wow.... I did ramble. Sorry it's such a long comment. Can't wait for more!

Thank you for the comment, compliment, and questions! No need to apologize--long comments are as welcome as short ones, and sometimes even more enjoyable! Indeed, I am looking at the publication process right now, as I'm nearing the completion of the first half of the story, and as part of that I am working with some talented writers to produce a narrative. I was uncertain about how to format/represent the story that is told rather completely in two different media (as visual images and as full-blown fictional prose), but I think I've got that figured out now, too.

I'm glad you enjoy the story and the drawings and the captions that I've added here and there. If you check the journal entry that is linked on most of recent pages (all of "Catcall" has the link), it will tell you more of the plan and give you some places for notes and backstory.

Thanks again! And in the words of Robert Plant and Led Zeppelin, "Ramble On!" ;)

Awesome! I would seriously buy this story if published! If you look at the book "The Plucker" by Brom. That one is an illustrated novel, though not as illustrated as yours. But it's probably still a good idea to take a look if you can, help you with your ideas and all.

Dear Faile35(Jeff)

I just wanted to comment on how amazing your work is. The way you blend story and art. I\'m sure you\'ve heard many people say this before, but I hope you don\'t mind me repeating that I wish I had your consistent skill and ability to keep focused and stick to a developing story line. I loved the fantasy genre, and always wished more fantasy stories had the \'elements\' (kinks?) you used ;)
Its just wonderful to find someone who\'s stories have subject matters that really grabs my interest ;)

thank you for sharing your art and story

Thank you for the note! =D And I must confess that, while not every page is as much fun to produce as some, the "Demon's Due" storyline is overall a thoroughly enjoyable project, reinforced by the enjoyment of the folks here on DA who comment like you've done here. =D There are many mistakes (most of them artistically) and a few plot-holes that commenters help me catch, too, which is quite useful. I hope, when the story is at long last all finished, that most everyone will be able to look back on it all and feel a sense of having taken an enjoyable little journey. :fingerscrossed:

Thanks again! I'm super-glad you're enjoying it. =)

Here's a journal entry that talks about the sordid details of Luther and Zirena's backstory. [link]

Then you have the Yahoo Group where I posted some of the out-of-sync pages (only six are up at the moment). [link]

To my knowledge, those are the only public postings of the plot--I've revealed a bit more through notes to those who have specifically asked.

At the pace I'm keeping right now, I should finish this chapter up by the end of May, and start into the next one right then. :please:

You're welcome. =)

That's the one i read! :) It was quite difficult to find it again, i think you should add to your journal a FAQ link. That way, it's easier.

By the way, should i send you a note about more sordid details? I mean, i can't take it, i'm VERY curious, and.. i would like to know a bit more of the spoilers ;)

The chapters are amazing, i'm enjoying it. Just one question, have you written the story, or it's purely visual with your inputs. Maybe you've mentioned it before, but since english is not my first language, i may have missed it :P

Anyways, thank you! :)

Sorry it has taken me so long to get to this comment, especially with the good and important questions you've asked. As far as asking me for more sordid details, yes, if you're interested in knowing more, you should send me a note and ask me some specific questions, so I can answer them concisely and perhaps preserve a few of the associated surprises to be revealed in the future. About me having written the story and just illustrating it at this point, I'll tell you that I have an outline of important events in my head, which changes very little as each new chapter/image comes out. However, the events of each chapter are only roughly developed before I start, and many of them change radically from page to page.

If you read the longer comments on the first few pages of "Rats in the Cellar," you will find the beginnings of the narrative written by Jana ( *Dyun ). I think this note is the first one. [link] After that, she sent the whole "Rats" narrative to me in a note, and the "Twisted Plot" narrative in another note. When I publish the whole series in some hardcopy format, I'll have the narratives and text together. =)

You're welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
